Quick post just to drop these two guides on period ways of cleaning weapons. www.scribd.com/document/292985859/The-Care-and-Cleaning-of-Firelocks-in-the-18th-Century-A-Discussion-of-Period-Methods-and-Their-Present-Day-ApplicationsAnd hemamisfits.com/2017/03/03/how-to-care-for-your-sword-like-a-napoleonic-soldier/Now my personal cleaning kit consists of 1 Vial of oil, normally olive oil Cleaning heads that screw onto the ramrod, a worm and a wiping eye, although just a worm would suffice A mainspring vice An abrasive, such as brick dust or emery Assorted rags Tow (untreated hemp fibres) for use in conjunction with the worm for swabbing and drying the barrel Beeswax, animal fat or a mixture of the two, used for treating metal and wood, slowing rust, waterproofing and lubricating. Something for blocking up the touchhole, a small stick can be used but is liable to snap off. A feather works exceptionally well. There are also period sources of mud or dirt being used. A small brush for cleaning powder residue That is about it, that is a large list, I would expect us to spread that between the section to lose weight.
